Things To Do In Detroit While In Town For The I See You Awards®


Everyone knows this week belongs to the I See You Awards®. It’s summertime in the Metro Detroit area and with a mix of locals and visitors, Detroit has something for everyone, and this city knows how to show any and everyone a good time!


Detroit is full of exciting history. We know you’ll enjoy the films at the I See You Awards® and we are so proud that Detroit is known for many different forms of art. Would you like to see what Detroit has to offer in the art department? Visit the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts) to get a taste of history and art. This week, they hold several events including the “Detroit Dance City Festival” and FREE family game days. Visit dia.org for events and hours.


Travel a little further downtown to the Charles H. Wright Museum. This week, their events include “Motown & More: The Detroit History Of Motown Legends Bus Tour”. This museum is full of culture and one-of-a-kind historic pieces. Go to thewright.org for more information.

Want to experience Motown for yourself? Well, you’re in the right city! Travel down Grand Blvd. and visit the Motown museum in Detroit. Walk the same floors as some of music's greatest entertainers like Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross. If you would like to experience music while visiting this week, from Metrotimes.com, Plugged In Detroit and Sodalis Productions present “Silent Party Trap vs. R&B” at Club 1440 on August 23rd from 9pm-2am. The tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased on sodalisproductions.com. Ticket prices may be higher at the door.

The TrapXArt Summer ‘19 Tour makes its way to Detroit on August 23rd from 10:00pm-2:00am. Tickets start at $20. Visit Eventbrite.com for more details.


If jazz is more your style, come visit “the world’s oldest jazz club”. The legendary Bakers Keyboard Lounge is having karaoke on August 21st from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Visit theofficialbakerskeyboardlounge.com for more details and events.


The I See You Awards® takes place in Royal Oak. If you would like to see what Royal Oak is truly made of, there are some events that you may want to check out. The Detroit Zoo, located in Royal Oak, MI offers FREE Summer Concerts. The next one takes place on August 21st at 12:00 midnight.

If you would like to get more involved in the Royal Oak community, the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce is offering an informal open house for people interested in learning more about Royal Oak. It’s taking place at the Royal Oak Woman’s Club Meet and Greet on August 21st from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Go to rowc.org for more details.


Are you a foodie? Well, we have just the event for you. Travel five minutes outside of the Royal Oak area to the city of Ferndale and enjoy, “Foodies In The City”, located at Detroit Fleat from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on August 23rd. This will be a wonderful event for people to connect through food and cocktails in the Metro Detroit area. Go to Eventbrite.com for more details.


Looking for familiar food? Try Punch Bowl Social located on Broadway St. in Detroit. Visit punchbowlsocial.com for their hours and menu. But, keep in mind that you must be 21+ to enter after 10 p.m.


Maybe you would like to try something new! Visit Detroit Taco, located right outside the Royal Oak Emagine Theatre. This restaurant offers some amazing Mexican food with a Detroit twist! They have many options including tacos, burritos, and bowls.

If you love a good burger, you picked the perfect week to visit Detroit. It’s Detroit Burger Week and many restaurants are serving $6 burgers. What’s a burger without a brew? Motor City Brew Tours Presents: Eastern Market Walking Brewery on August 23rd from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Eastern Market Brewing Company. Visit Eventbrite.com for more information.


If you’re bringing your family into town, the Detroit Premier Neighborhood Business Community wants to invite you and your family to celebrate “Entrepreneurship in the Neighborhoods”. There will be music from Detroit’s own, DJ Maestro, bounce houses, photo booths, and barbecue on the grill (vegetarian options will be available). This event takes place on August 24th from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Palmer Park (The Splash Pad Area). Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.com.
