On Thursday, August 22, movie lovers will have a chance to watch the films that are official selections and 2019 awards nominees in the 3rd Annual I See You Awards®. Attendees will also have an opportunity to vote on which films they want to see win a People's Choice Award. So, if you have a favorite film or filmmaker you would like to see win this coveted award, this is your opportunity to show your support!


To help you plan your day, we are featuring film trailers* to give you a sneak peek at the films vying for your vote; yes, YOUR vote!


After you take a look at this year’s lineup, we’re sure you’ll agree that you don’t want to miss a single one! So, schedule a vacation day and join us for a full day of film screenings at the beautiful Emagine Theater in Royal Oak, Michigan!

Bozkir Look At The Birds

The Color of Medicine


Screening time: 10:05 a.m. in Emagine Theatre auditorium #2.


Synopsis: An absorbing and historic recollection of a 2nd generation physician and alumnus of Homer G. Phillips in 1963, Dr. Earle Robinson Jr., whose father was one of the 1st interns to graduate in 1939, from one of the nation’s pre-eminent African-American medical training hospitals, Homer G. Phillips, in St. Louis Missouri.



Resilience & the Lost Gems


Screening time: 12:20 p.m. in Emagine Theatre auditorium #1.


Synopsis: Eleven-year-old adventurer, “Rizzy” O’Neil (aka Resilience), is separated from her family while in pursuit of a mysterious local legend. She faces intense heat, thirst, hunger, treacherous terrain, deadly creatures, turbulent weather, all in a land designed to crush the living. Rizzy must call on all her wits, strength, skill, and faith to beat the clock and save her family, and just maybe, a piece of history too!




Only You & Me

Synopsis: When opportunity knocks, Jade finds herself torn between her heart and her ambitions.


My Girl Story


Screening time: 12:35 p.m. in Emagine Theatre auditorium #2.


Synopsis: My Girl Story tells the stories of two young African American women and their individual journeys to being the young ladies they want to become.



After You


Screening time: 1:40 p.m. in Emagine Theatre auditorium #2.


Synopsis: An insecure gym employee lies to one of the most important women in his life as she desperately searches for the truth behind her rape.



Dolls Don't Die


Screening time: 2:10 p.m. in Emagine Theatre auditorium #1.


Synopsis: Mia (5 years old) hasn't seen her big sister in a long time. Her mom said she'll be back home when she'll eat again. So between dreams and memories, Mia starts to cook, to bring her back.

Synopsis: While GM plants in Flint closed in the 80s, unemployment, crimes & drugs skyrocketed. Then after years of government missteps there was the water crisis. But Flint entrepreneurs aren't hopeless. Although not an easy route, they continue to make their own small businesses successful for their families & their town.



Lourdes


Screening Time: 2:35 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: In this short documentary from Michigan, a Mexican mother of three fights deportation after suffering imprisonment.



A Wonderful Day


Screening Time: 2:40 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: A heartwarming drama of kindness and transformations. In the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, members of the homeless community are receiving surprise gifts from a stranger. Follow him as they discover the identity of their generous giver.



Scarborough


Screening Time: 3:20 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: When his father leaves after a heated argument, a young boy named David has to come to terms with the fact that his parents' relationship is coming to a close. It is only through the stories and songs the boy's mother recites to him that David comes to a place of acceptance.

Screening Time: 3:25 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: Liz is a hopeless romantic, who over the course of a month, meets and falls in love with a shy and often nervous boy, James.



Due Process


Screening Time: 3:45 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: An overburdened social worker fights to bring justice to a mother and her unborn child.



Rolling In The Deep


Screening time: 4:00 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: A drama inspired by true events about a young African-American male who travels home to South Carolina looking to achieve a goal for his late father by having a meal at a locally-famous whites-only diner.



Sparks! A Robotic Love Story


Screening time: 4:15 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: A happy, code-typing worker android falls in love with his human female supervisor. Just one problem: every time he sees her, his heart literally explodes.





The Forest Kids


Screening Time: 4:25 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: A teacher guides his kindergarten students to explore a new learning environment that cultivates the power of childlike wonder.



Father & Son


Screening Time: 4:50 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: This piece began as a sketch written for the stage, and only through the random encounter of an audience member two years later, telling the screenwriter how much they were moved by the piece, did he begin the process of putting it on camera.


I’m Sorry


Screening Time: 4:50 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: A young African-American man spends his last free day before heading to prison apologizing to everyone near and dear to him for betraying their trust in him.



Real Mature


Screening Time: 5:15 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: Coming soon.



Coming Up for Air


Screening Time: 5:20 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: When single mom Anna Russell, a ceramic artist, discovers that her son Stan, a star college athlete and academic star is unraveling, she must act quickly to avoid tragedy. In denial and further and further out of reach, Stan suddenly disappears. Anna must find him on a journey that highlights the importance of mental health, sensible gun regulation and the challenges of high stakes athletics vs. academic excellence.




Hide & Seek


Screening Time: 5:40 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: Two girls on a long road trip try to leave a small, nameless town. Ignoring a warning, they take a risky detour and quickly become lost. Frustration turns to terror as they’re abducted by a figure from the darkness. The film rapidly accelerates, culminating in a climactic showdown on a dark road where nothing appears to be as it seems.

Synopsis: After a sudden tragedy, a recovering alcoholic attempts to reconcile with his two estranged sons over a weekend, but the encounter reveals skeletons from the family’s past that he must accept, or risk losing his sons forever.




Affliction

Synopsis: A young writer battling an ever-worsening condition of schizophrenia must face his condition head on when it forces him to do the unthinkable against his wishes.




Jumpin’ Johnny: The Incredible True Story of Dr. John Kline


Screening Time: 8:00 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: Profile on Dr. John Kline, better known as Jumpin' Johnny Kline, who played for the Harlem Globetrotters from 1953-59. After his basketball career, he struggled with drug addiction before finding a path to sobriety and returning to school to gain his bachelors, masters, and doctorate. Then, proceeding to help people into drug recovery and becoming an advocate for black basketball players who played for integration.



The Spoon that Whacks the Cradle


Screening Time: 8:35 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: Be a fly on the wall as an elderly lady is pushed to the brink when her bullying adult son tries to sell her house. Revenge can be surprisingly comedic.



Chasing After You


Screening Time: 9:15 p.m. in auditorium #1.


Synopsis: Coming soon.



Knock Knock


Screening Time: 9:50 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: Sinia does the best she can to help the kids next door, however when they are in danger, she does nothing. Stricken by guilt, she decides to check on the kids, but what she discovers is a chilling reality that pushes her over the edge. 



Mountain


Screening Time: 10:20 p.m. in auditorium #2.


Synopsis: A trio of U.S. soldiers fight for survival after being trapped behind enemy lines during World War II.



Tickets to all events are available via Eventbrite. In addition to the film screenings, there will be an industry seminar on Friday, August 23, featuring Hollywood veteran Tom Hines. Hines has worked with Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Jason Sudeikis, Hector Elizondo, the legendary Garry Marshall and Roscoe Lee Browne, just to name a few.
